Dear Campus Community,

We extend our heartfelt appreciation for your ongoing flexibility and understanding as our teams navigate the aftermath of recent storms affecting our region. We are reaching out with an important update regarding the status of campus operations.

We are happy to announce that our dedicated facilities team, in collaboration with PG&E and other contracted experts, has successfully restored power to 18 out of 19 buildings on campus. As a result, all in-person classes will resume in person starting tomorrow, Thursday, February 8, 2024. Faculty, we ask that you communicate directly with the students in your courses as we know you have done throughout the week. Students, please be on the lookout for updates from your professors and faculty members. In addition, all network functions have been fully restored.

However, please note that the Student Services & Administration Building (SA) building is still without power. Consequently, the following support services will continue to be available remotely: Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Cashiers, the Career Development Center, and Academic Advisors with offices in SA.

We would like to express our gratitude to our ITS Department, Facilities, University Police, and Student Housing for their tireless dedication in ensuring the safety of our campus and facilitating the smooth operation of our activities around the clock.

We eagerly anticipate welcoming the majority of you back to campus tomorrow. Your adaptability and patience throughout this process have been greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for your understanding.

Dear Campus Community, 

We hope this message finds you safe and well amidst the recent storms that continue to affect our region. We are writing to provide an update on the status of campus operations in light of the challenges posed by the weather conditions.

Unfortunately, the recent storms have caused damage to one of our main electrical feeders, resulting in this campus-wide power outage. Our dedicated facilities team has been working tirelessly alongside PG&E and other contracted experts to identify and address the issue promptly and safely and have been able to get 11 of the 19 buildings on campus powered back on so far.

Please note that all Cal State East Bay campuses will operate remotely tomorrow, Wednesday, February 7, 2024. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but the safety and well-being of our students, staff, faculty, and community remain our top priority.

It's important to note that despite the power outage, the Science Buildings are powered by a generator, ensuring the preservation of ongoing research projects. Additionally, Student Housing and Dining operate on a separate power grid and have remained fully operational for our students and residents.

We recognize that many of you may also be experiencing power outages in your homes. Our thoughts are with you during this challenging time, and we sincerely hope that power is restored to your residences soon.

We appreciate your patience as we navigate through these unforeseen circumstances and are grateful for your continued understanding and cooperation as we work towards restoring normalcy on campus.

We hope you are staying dry and safe. We are writing to inform you that power has not been restored and therefore, the Cal State East Bay Hayward campus will again be closed for the day on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. 

Please be advised that while our physical campus may be closed, the university will continue all of its remote operations. 

We appreciate your continued understanding and cooperation as we work closely with PG&E to resolve this issue quickly and safely. 

Please note that our Oakland and Concord locations continue to remain unaffected and will operate as usual.

We will provide updates as new information becomes available.

We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to inform you that Cal State East Bay Hayward campus experienced a power outage and as a result, our campus will be closed for the day. 

We are currently awaiting assistance from PGE to address the situation and restore power as soon as possible. 

Please be advised that while our physical campus may be closed, the university remains operational remotely. 

We understand that this may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to resolve this issue swiftly and safely. 

Please note that our Oakland and Concord locations are unaffected and will operate as usual.

We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Due to the fires and unpredictable air quality, the three Cal State East Bay campuses will be closed Friday, September 11. All on-campus classes and activities will meet online if possible. All employees, with limited exception, are expected to work from home.  Residence halls and the Dining Commons will remain open. The Pioneer Bookstore will be open from 10AM-12PM for pickup. 

Air quality will be monitored and decisions on any further action, including the status for next week will be forthcoming. For updated information, please check your CSU East Bay email, homepage, FaceBook and Twitter for information.     

We understand that some individuals may experience greater sensitivity to changing environmental conditions.  Please consult with your managers if you have any questions.  We encourage you to take care of your health: 

1. Listen to your body, if you are experiencing health symptoms, consult your healthcare provider.
2. Reduce the amount of time spent outdoors and avoid strenuous activity.
3. Find areas that have fresher air.
4. Drink lots of water.
5. If possible, take fresh breaks.
6. Drive your car with recirculating air.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, Cal State East Bay’s campuses are open for regular business and in-person classes will be held as scheduled. If the air quality remains stable, there will be no further announcements regarding campus closure.
