Announcements/Resources:

  • Please join the Institute for STEM Education Advisory Board Spring Meeting on Monday, April 29 at Noon in SF 329.  During the public session of the meeting (12:00 - 12:30), we'll be sharing two tools created this year by faculty working groups that are designed to help PI manage grants.   The first is an outline of all of the procedures to hire individuals to support grant work.  This includes students, faculty, staff, and outside consultants.   The second is a database of existing relationships with local K-12 teachers, administrators, and school districts.   The meeting is in person and there is no video conference option but these two resources will be shared through ORSP.    If you'd like to attend, please RSVP to bruce.simon@csueastbay.edu

  • The Research Strategic Plan Subcommittee of the Committee on Research is creating a directory of the content and methodological expertise areas of faculty. Our hope is that this will enable/foster collaborative work on grants and other Research, Creative, and Scholarly Activities (RSCA). Your responses will be shared with others who complete the form, and may be published widely. If you are not interested in collaboration/ mentorship, you will have the opportunity to opt out. We would still appreciate you completing this form for internal reference and to better capture student RSCA engagement. Link to the Expertise Directory Google Form:  https://forms.gle/ehnxET4LTPThYes38

Cal Poly is excited to host the CSU-wide Student Research Competition on April 26 & 27, 2024 in San Luis Obispo! The California State University Student Research Competition is an annual event that brings together scholars from the 23 campuses of our California State University system. The competition showcases undergraduate and graduate research, scholarship, and creative works by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments. across the 23 campuses.   Current undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent alumni from all academic disciplines can participate. Each year, over 200 students from the 23 CSU campuses submit written papers and make oral presentations before juries of professional experts from major corporations, foundations, public agencies, and universities in California. Students who compete in the CSU Student Research Competition can win $500 for first place and $250 for second place recognition in their session.   Each CSU campus appoints a campus coordinator and develops its own procedures for selecting student delegates to the system-wide competition. Interested students should contact their campus coordinator for more information. Only those students endorsed by the campus coordinator can enter the system-wide competition.

  • Multidisciplinary research teams are encouraged to submit pre-proposals by June 7, 2024 to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) with the release of its fiscal year 2024-25 research solicitation. The projects included in the solicitation support CARB’s regulatory priorities related to health, environmental justice, economics, air pollution, and climate change. The selection of these projects was guided by the Triennial Strategic Research Plan for funding years 2021-2024 and the public comment and concept collection survey administered in Spring of 2023.  This is a great opportunity as only UC's and CSU's can apply.
