Summer Rise Student Mentors

Position Summary:

As a Student Mentor for the Summer Rise Program, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive and supportive environment for incoming freshmen students during their initial days at CSU East Bay. You will serve as a guide, mentor, and resource person to help participants acclimate to campus life, build connections with their peers, and successfully navigate their academic journey.

Responsibilities:

  1. Mentorship and Guidance:

    • Provide guidance and support to a group of incoming freshmen students throughout the 10-day program.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive community by encouraging open communication and camaraderie among participants.
  2. Orientation Assistance:

    • Assist participants in completing their orientation requirements and familiarize them with campus resources, facilities, and services.
    • Facilitate discussions and activities that help students understand academic expectations and campus policies.
  3. Community Building:

    • Organize and participate in team-building activities, icebreakers, and social events to create a sense of belonging among participants.
    • Encourage networking and relationship-building among students to enhance their overall college experience.
  4. Academic Support:

    • Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty to provide information on academic programs, majors, and resources available to students.
    • Assist participants in setting academic goals and developing strategies for success.
  5. Crisis Intervention:

    • Be attentive to the well-being of participants and be prepared to address any concerns or challenges that may arise during the program.
    • Collaborate with program coordinators and campus support services to ensure students receive appropriate assistance when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at CSU East Bay.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication and active listening abilities.
  • Knowledge of campus resources and services.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for assisting incoming students.
  • Able to work in a team and individually.
  •  Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances

Time Commitment:

The position requires full participation in the 10-day residential program from July 26 to August 9, 2024, including pre-program training sessions. Some additional time commitment may be necessary for post-program evaluations and follow-up activities.
