ISEP
California State University, East Bay is a member of the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) consortium. ISEP is a nonprofit membership organization of 300+ institutions of higher education located throughout the United States and in more than 50 countries. The consortium agreement allows Cal State East Bay students to receive resident credit while studying abroad at a partner university. Academic year, semester and summer programs in a variety of subjects are available depending on the location. Many English language instruction sites available. A 2.75 GPA is required for most programs.
ISEP has two different fee structures (you'll notice throughout your research the terms 'ISEP-Exchange' and 'ISEP-Direct'.)
ISEP-Exchange means that a CSUEB student will pay tuition, room and board to CSUEB no matter where in the world they choose to study abroad. While you are studying abroad, ISEP will place a student at CSUEB and they will live on campus. When applying for ISEP-Exchange, you will include 4-8 schools on your ISEP application (in order of preference), and ISEP will offer you study abroad placement at one institution.
For the 2023-24 Academic Year, the Room & Board charge for ISEP-Exchange participants is $7649.00/semester.
ISEP-Direct means that you will pay program fees (tuition, and sometimes room & board as well) to ISEP - costs vary by location. The benefit of choosing ISEP Direct is that space at the specific host institution is guaranteed, as long as you apply by the deadline published on ISEP's website.
PLEASE NOTE: CSUEB's study abroad office must approve all student applications for ISEP, so do not wait until the last minute! We recommend you complete your application at least one week (preferably two weeks) before ISEP's priority deadline as noted below:
CSUEB ISEP Priority Application Deadlines
- February 15th for Fall/Summer (to meet ISEP's March 1 deadline)
- September 1 for Spring (to meet ISEP's September 15 deadline)
For more information, please visit the ISEP website. When applying for ISEP Exchange or Direct, a non-refundable application fee of US$100 is due with your application, and then a $425 Placement Fee when you are ready to accept your placement.
Once submitting your application on the ISEP website, please schedule an appointment with the CSUEB Study Abroad Office, and complete/submit the ISEP Supplemental Questionnaire.
