Sustainability
The University has made a commitment to make sustainable practices paramount on campus. Facilities Development & Operations puts these practices in play every day by following the 2009 Hayward Campus Master Plan.
Working in conjunction with the Sustainability department, Facilities works with student interns on such projects as:
- Delamping in the Science Building
- Mapping our exterior waste receptacles and evaluating recyclable contents
Bathroom Upgrades
Coming to a completion is a project to upgrade 10 campus bathrooms with motion sensor operated faucets, new low flow toilets and automated hand driers. The replacement of paper towels use and the addition of motion sensor and low flow devices save on resources and lower the campus' environmental footprint.
Surplus Furniture
New furniture was installed last month in the University Union. Instead of sending the old furniture to landfill, 265 pieces of surplus furniture totaling 9,790 pounds; (equal to 4.895 tons), was removed and shipped to Kigali, Rwanda for relief efforts through IRN's non-profit partners.
