2026 Department of Justice Ruling on Section 508

Beginning April 24, 2026, our campus will be required to ensure that all digital course materials are accessible to individuals with disabilities, in compliance with Title II of the ADA

Campus Information and Communication Technology compliance

California Government Code 11135 requires the CSU to comply with Section 508 and to apply accessibility standards to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products and services that it buys, creates, uses, and maintains.   • ALLY monthly meetings
  • Chancellor's Office Accessibility Technology Initiative (ATI)
  • Faculty Senate Meetings related to the 508 compliance
    • Recent FITAC report and discussion on DOJ compliance and campus preparation (09/30/2024).
  • Online Campus monthly meeting: Plan/Action Accessibility/Title II/Ally/instructional material remediation
    • Design team meeting: 10am every 4th Tuesday of the month since fall 2024.
    • Provide ongoing voluntary remediation services as part of the standard department services since 2014.
    • Enhance remediation services by eLearning Specialists started Fall 2024.
      • Generate Ally institutional report at least once per semester.
      • Targeting most impacted instructional materials.
      • Contact faculty for permission to access and assist with remediation effort.
