Sarah Kay Hoffman, professional wellness and healthy lifestyle blogger, and the founder of A Loving Spoon nut butters, will lead a workshop "Making Social Media Work for You," on Saturday, March 14 at Cal State East Bay's Oakland Center. Her workshop — targeting freelancers, artists, authors, consultants, and other solo-entrepreneurs — is part of CSUEB's new Social Media Marketing Certificate program.

"Social media is not just for large corporations with large marketing budgets. Social media is for anyone who has information to share or a story to tell," said Hoffman.

Hoffman has more than 10 years' experience in various marketing, sales, and communications positions across different industries and different size companies. Most recently, Hoffman has focused on social media optimization, online community building, and general marketing for clients and campaigns. Her roster of work includes well-known brands like Nutiva, Electronic Arts (Family Game Night), Hasbro, Time Life, Nike+ Human Race, Sears Holdings Corporation (fitness and outdoor business units), and The Laughing Cow.

Hoffman began her wellness and lifestyle blog in early 2009 as a way to document her journey with food intolerance and colitis, and in 2012 she became a holistic health coach in order to work with women who struggle with the same health issues. Hoffman can be followed at http://www.sarahkayhoffman.com.

In early 2013, A Loving Spoon, LLC, was born out of Hoffman's desire to reinvent the everyday snack and dessert — nut butters. A Loving Spoon stands firm to its motto: bare ingredients, bold flavor, and unprocessed guilt. The first flavor, Honey Vanilla Bourbon Peanut Butter, launched nationally in 2013, followed by a second flavor, Purely Cacao Peanut Butter in January 2015, and both sold out in days.

The company donates 10 cents of each jar purchased to their Love+ 1 Food Project, which benefits a school in Haiti with over 600 students.

During the March 14 class, Hoffman will share how she went from corporate worker to a passionate and inspiring "mom-preneur" using social media to market her message. "My first piece of advice for using social media is to understand your why, and then create a presence to enhance that why,'" said Hoffman.
