Delmo Della-Dora, Cal State East Bay professor emeritus of teacher education and educational leadership, will be honored for his longtime service to the community by the board of directors and staff of Hayward-based Ruby's Place at a breakfast on Tuesday, May 13, at 9 a.m.

Della-Dora is being recognized for his many years of service to Ruby's Place, an organization that provides emergency shelter and supportive services to women and children who experience domestic violence, human trafficking and homelessness.

The event will be held at the Elephant Bar restaurant, located in the Southland Mall, at 24177 Southland Drive in Hayward. Tickets to the awards breakfast are $42 per person and can be purchased by going to the Ruby's Place Web site at Ruby Space or via email to info@rubysplace.org. Tickets and additional information also are available by calling (510) 581-5626, ext. 901.

A Hayward civic leader for many years, Della-Dora served on the CSUEB faculty from 1973 through 1992.

"Del was a supportive colleague and friend when I first arrived at Cal State East Bay," said Emily Brizendine, professor emerita of educational leadershp and former associate dean of the College of Education. "He was very generous with his ideas and time."

U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell is scheduled to be a guest speaker at the breakfast.

Della-Dora's community involvement includes serving as president of Ruby's Place and his membership on its board for 25 years. He also serves on the board of St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, has worked on other community projects through his 32-year membership in the Rotary Club of Hayward, and been active in the League of Women Voters and the Hayward Task Force to End Homelessness and Hunger.
