Chevron helps to fund more career services for CSUEB students

Chevron Corp. is investing in Cal State East Bay students. Company representatives – two of whom are CSUEB business administration grads - John H. Miller '77,  Scott Louie '87 and Caroline Cunningham presented a check in the amount of $19,000 to Larry Bliss, director of the Academic Advising and Career Education Center (AACE), that will be used to support academic and career advising.

Louie said that Chevron has a long history of relying on talent from Cal State East Bay over the years, including from his field of study, finance. "At one point, we had about 450 employees who were grads from CSUEB," said Louie. CSUEB Provost James Houpis added that since 40% of CSUEB students are the first in their family to graduate from college, the support from Chevron was truly transforming families and communities

Vice President of University Advancement Ara Serjoie remarked how critical the donation was in helping CSUEB students making the bridge from college to career.  Bliss said the gift enabled AACE to purchase additional flat-screens promoting its programs and to increase the services it offers to students.

Miller said that Chevron's relationship with CSUEB goes back at least 40 years, recalling his days recruiting on the campus in the 1970s. Chevron representatives also mentioned that Cal State East Bay is one of the top recruiting schools for Chevron nation-wide.

Participants agreed the event provided a critical opportunity to not only acknowledge Chevron's support for AACE, but also plan greater CSUEB alumni engagement and student career development opportunities in the future.
