Witt Salley
Cal State East Bay online instructor Witt Salley was recently named the Director of Online Education at one of the country’s top-tier research universities, Clemson University. Salley, who graduated from CSUEB’s M.S. in Education, option in Online Teaching and Learning (MS-OTL) in 2005, has been working closely with leadership teams at Clemson University since July to develop high-quality courses and programs in both blended-learning and online formats.
Salley assumed the role as director after nearly 10 years in the online-instruction field. He previously served as College Director of OTC Online, the virtual college in the Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC) system, and as an E-learning Consultant for The Sloan Consortium, an organization dedicated to integrating online education into the mainstream of higher education. And these are only a few bullet points on Salley’s impressive resume, many of which he attributed back to the education he received at CSUEB.
“Without the Master of Science in Education, option in Online Teaching and Learning program at CSU East Bay, none of these opportunities would have been afforded to me,” explained Salley. “I was offered my first full-time position at Ozarks Technical Community College because of the subject-matter expertise I gained from the MS-OTL program.”
Salley has also been a dedicated instructor at CSUEB since 2008. He teaches the course “Educational Planning and Development for Online Programs”, a required course in the MS–OTL program.
Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the MS-OTL program is offered through CSUEB Continuing Education and is one of the most comprehensive online teaching and learning training programs offered in the world.
The program meets the needs of university and college faculty, K-12 teachers, corporate and military trainers, educational administrators and others who design, implement, and teach online courses, and those who want to become experts in the pedagogy of online instruction.
“The MS-OTL program is one of a kind in its emphasis on online teaching and learning as well as in its focus at the master’s level on programmatic and administrative issues,” said Salley, who is so confident in the quality of the MS-OTL program at CSUEB that he has employed more than 15 graduates over the past eight years. “I recommend this program on a regular basis to friends and colleagues because it has been instrumental in my success.”
