Savvy social security: what boomers should know, Feb. 27

After hearing for years that Social Security is “going broke,” baby boomers realize that their turn to use the system is approaching. What benefits will still be there and how will they best access information about them? These are crucial questions, and having clear answers can have tremendous impact on the total amount of benefits one receives across a lifetime.

George Noceti will lead a discussion on the basics of Social Security and on the strategies needed to maximize benefits. He’ll stress five factors to consider when applying, explore whether it makes sense to delay application or to take the plunge, look at coordinating claims with a spouse’s, and show how to minimize taxes on benefits. Don’t be put off if you’re already in the system. Come make yourself an expert who can mentor kin and friends about graceful transitions from the working life.

Noceti has taught investment courses to financial advisors and was awarded the “Tim Kochis Award for Teaching Excellence” for his exceptional efforts at the University of California, Berkeley. His courses are known for being interactive, insightful, and entertaining. In his early career George was a school principal with the Richmond Unified School District.
