We’re delighted that alumnae Luanne Roticci ’87 and Liza Jane MacNaughton ’90 have committed to supporting another year of “SOS” scholarships for seniors struggling with the high cost of higher education. (Read the news announcement here)
Last year, they were responding to increases in tuition fees — approximately $588 for CSUEB students — announced in July 2011 after severe budget cuts to the CSU.
They not only gave their support, they urged friends and colleagues to add their gifts to the fund. The fund grew from their initial support to include almost 30 donors — and thanks to their combined contributions, almost 30 students, mostly seniors preparing to graduate, received awards that kept them and their families afloat.
SOS scholarship recipient Annie Fowler ’12 shared her thanks with the donors and friends of Cal State East Bay who made it possible for her to finish her degree in human development.
Students — check your Horizon e-mail; if you’re eligible to apply for an SOS scholarship you may have already received information and an application form. You can also contact an academic advisor or pick up a form from the Information Center on the first floor of the Student Services and Administration Building. Scholarships range from $500 to $1500. Applications are due Friday, August 31!
In the meantime, the University asks alumni and friends — who know first hand how challenging it can be to make ends meet while in school — to consider a gift to Save Our Students this year.
