Glenn Glasow, California State University, East Bay professor of composition for 34 years, will be remembered at an annual concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 24 in the Music Building Recital Hall, room 1055, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd., Hayward, 94542. Admission is free.
The late composer was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship, and had developed innovative courses in Asian and World music utilizing materials collected during his frequent visits to Asia. With his partner Yoshiko Kakudo, he translated a collection of essays by the eminent Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu.
Known for his wry humor and his dedication to his students, the Glasow’s memorial concert features works by CSUEB alumni, faculty and students.
This year’s program will feature Leslie La Barre's Shibui & Noh for violin, clarinet, and piano (world premiere) (Glenn Glasow Graduate Fellowship Commission); Taylor Rankin's Metropolis for violin, clarinet, and piano (world premiere) (Glasow Undergraduate Commission); Ryan Rey's Fuschian Haze for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano (world premiere); Michael Stubblefield's Overworld for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano (world premiere); plus works by Max Stoffregen and Belinda Reynolds.
Performers will be Jeff Anderle, clarinet; Kevin Rogers, violin; Hannah Addario-Berry, cello; and Keisuke Nakagoshi, piano. Jeffrey Miller, is coordinating the event.
