CSUEB observes 10 years at Oakland Center

This year California State University, East Bay, observes its first decade at the Oakland Center, a professional development and continuing education site located at 1000 Broadway in downtown Oakland.

Since opening 10 years ago, the University and the Oakland Center have continued to be active members of the community, partnering in 2009 and 2010 with the Oakland and Hayward public libraries to host "The Big Read," an initiative designed by the National Endowment for the Arts to restore reading to the forefront of American culture. Additionally, Cal State East Bay takes a leading role each year in Super Sunday, an event that seeks to increase awareness and interest in higher education among African-American youth by reaching out to Black churches in the East Bay region.

The Oakland Center makes its facilities and services available at special pricing to nonprofit organizations as part of the University’s vision of regional stewardship. Over the last decade, the center has offered more than 40 programs and educated over 21,000 students.
