Alumni Raymond Wong shows art in San Francisco exhibition opening Oct. 6

Raymond Wong, BFA 2007 and a Root Division resident artist in San Francisco, will have a piece of art in the “UpRooted” exhibit opening Wednesday, Oct. 6 at “Heart,” a "chaotic wine bar" and gallery at 24th Street and Valencia. The opening will be from 6-10 p.m.
Wong draws inspiration from the cynical realists of China and various American filmmakers. His work has shown at the LoBot Gallery in Oakland and the de Young Museum as part of A Tribute to Asian American Art and Cultural Expressions: 1900 to the Present. Wong has spent the last three years painting in his studio in Emeryville.
Root Division is an arts and arts education non-profit located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Its mission is to improve appreciation and access to the visual arts by connecting personal inspiration and community participation. It provides subsidized studio space to working artists in exchange for their service in creating shared learning opportunities for the community.
Root Division is supported in part by grants from Grants for the Arts: SF Hotel Tax Fund & Voluntary Arts Contribution Fund, The San Francisco Foundation, and the Walter & Elise Haas Fund. The Second Saturday Exhibition Series is sponsored by the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation, the San Francisco Arts Commission through a Cultural Equity Grant/Organizational Project Grant, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation.
While at CSUEB, Wong won several awards in the Annual Juried CSUEB Student Art Show, including a $500 portfolio award.
