Alternate routes to campus advised during Carlos Bee road work

  • August 20, 2010 4:15pm

With major road repair work started by the City of Hayward on Carlos Bee Boulevard – a main traffic artery leading to and from the campus of California State University, East Bay – the University is promoting two alternate routes for students, faculty and staff.

During construction, CSUEB’s University Police Department advises commuters who want to avoid the Carlos Bee Boulevard route off of Mission Boulevard to consider using alternate routes, including :

* Harder Road, on the south side of the campus, when traveling via Mission, and

* A route through the Hayward hills that includes Second Street, Campus Drive and Hayward Boulevard to access the campus via the Carlos Bee entrance.

One lane in each direction is available for traffic on Carlos Bee Boulevard between Mission Boulevard and Overlook Avenue during construction, which will involve a slight reconfiguration of the road and utilities repairs by PG&E and AT&T.

The road work is expected to continue for at least 15 weeks, well into the fall 2010 academic quarter at Cal State East Bay. The period of road blockage could run longer, depending on upcoming weather conditions during the fall.

Further information about the Carlos Bee Boulevard repair project and alternate routes is available by contacting Dave Hung, civil engineer for the City of Hayward, at (510) 885-4752.
