You don’t have to be a born thespian to be a part of campus theatre and dance. Come learn how you can be involved. The possibilities are endless, either as a Theatre and Dance major, or as an occasional performer, helper.

The Department of Theatre and Dance invites everyone to its first-ever mixer from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29 in the University Theatre lobby on the northeast side of campus.

Most of the department faculty will be there to share their love for the arts, tell of experiences, and answer questions.

Shows being produced this summer are Shakespeare’s, “The Tempest;” “New Works Showcase,” a potpourri of original works by Ann Fajilan’s students; and “Halie!,” a musical celebration of the life and legacy of Mahalia Jackson.

The 2010-11 season includes “Antigone,” conceived and directed by Darryl V. Jones; “Ice,” the annual extravaganza of dance and song; “Scroogie: A Modern Musical Carol,” loosely based on Charles Dickens’ holiday classic; “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” music by Stephen Sonheim, book by Larry Gelbart; “Seven Deadly Sings and the CSUEB Dance Ensemble,” music by Kurt Weill, book by Bertholt Brecht; the annual faculty dance concert, and “Performance Fusion,” theatre and dance students’ final projects.

For information, contact Darryl V. Jones, associate professor, at 510-885-3926 or send him an e-mail at darryl.jones@csueastbay.edu
