The Supreme Court ruled against President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan on Thursday, sparking frustration for students and higher education officials.
Cal State East Bay Director of Financial Aid Sonia Jethani said, “The government as a whole has been continuing to create barriers between my office and the students. We are here to make sure that these students succeed.” Due to financial aid offices’ reliance on resources provided by the federal government and state departments, the decision is certainly a disappointing one.
Jethani said her office aims to provide information to students on payment plans, and encourages them to reach out and do plenty of research on the process.
Higher education was also rocked by the news of the Supreme Court ending affirmative action programs in the admissions process.
