Curly Velasquez is Latinx Month Keynote Speaker

Cal State East Bay will host Curly Velasquez on Sept. 30 in celebration of Latinx heritage month. 

Velasquez’s keynote address, part of the university’s cultural awareness month speaker series, is at 12:15 p.m. and will be a hybrid event — audience members can see him speak in person in University Union room 311 or via Zoom. Please note that maximum capacity has already been reached for the in-person space but you can still register in advance for the online format. 

Velasquez is a content creator who is best known for his contributions to Buzzfeed’s Latinx Division: Pero Like. He will discuss the intersectionality of being Latinx and queer.

Velasquez began his career in fashion working for celebrity photographer David LaChapelle and design icon Jeremy Scott before starting his own line. By the age of 25, he was celebrated as one of the “IT” designers in LA by H&M and directed a music video for Interscope records.

In addition to Pero Like, Velasquez also appears in Starz’s VIDA (Seasons 2 and 3) and Netflix’s documentary Mucho Mucho Amor.

Please note that the registration process for the cultural awareness month speakers has changed slightly from past years in order to accommodate the new format. All attendees are required to complete the registration process regardless of how they wish to attend. There will be a unique registration form for each event.
