Diversity Matters

Cal State East Bay is one of the top 100 universities in the nation to confer degrees to minority students, according to a new listing in the magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, which ranks institutions based on various data points.

According to the list, 63 percent of Cal State East Bay graduates in 2016 identified as minorities, an increase of 6 percent from the 2014-15 school year.

The information used to create the list was provided by the U.S. Department of Education and included statistics for students in specific degree programs as well as across institutions.

Cal State East Bay was listed as No. 55 out of 100, behind CSU Dominguez Hills but ahead of both Sacramento State and San Francisco State.

Diversity is a key pillar of Cal State East Bay, which supports the most diverse student body in the mainland United States, and the fifth most diverse in the nation, according to a ranking of four-year public universities by The Chronicle of Higher Education's Almanac. The university has been recognized several times in the past few years for its emphasis on promoting diversity and inclusion, including a coveted Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine in 2016.
